Step 17 To Buying A Home: Give Notice To Your Landlord

This is one of the moments you are waiting for when you can finally send a notice to your landlord that you’re gladly packing your stuff (whoo hoo!). If you live in Toronto and anywhere in Ontario, and on a month-to-month tenancy then you have to give at least 60-day notice to end your rental period. If you are still on a longer term then you have to speak with your landlord if you can end it earlier. There’s an option to find someone to sublet you but if that tenant did not pay his rent then it’s on you. Some landlords will be cool about it so they can rent their property at market rent if you’ve been there a while and some landlords will give you a hard time and let you pay for the remainder of the lease term – we don’t want this to happen that’s why it’s extremely important to tell this to your Realtor during the discovery meeting and if that’s us then rest assured we will work into timing your move so you won’t have this hassle.
