Step 24 to Buying A Home: Time To Sign With Lawyer
If you made it this far, then you have managed to put your ducks in a row. If you used our recommended lawyer then you have fulfilled all the steps and has transferred your down payment to the lawyer in trust. If you are technically savvy, then this step will be done using virtual signing on Zoom or similar program. A signing officer will come to your location and time of choice and will verify all your IDs and guide you thru the signing process while the lawyer in charge will be on the other line. On some occasions, the verification of IDs will be done via Zoom as well. At this point, the lawyer would have sent you all the necessary documents and declaration forms and walk you through the mortgage instructions. The lawyer will advise you on how you can get your keys once the transaction has officially closed. If the seller’s lawyer is behind on his documents, the amount to be transferred may have not been finalized and you will be advised as soon as it’s available.
If you choose to do your signing in person, you will be asked to come to the lawyer’s office a day before the closing or on the day of closing to sign all the documents. The seller’s lawyer will advise your lawyer how to pick up the keys.
