If you did your homework in Step 26 To Buying A Home, then it should be a breeze.
But if you get so excited and forgot all the steps, here’s a recap:
Schedule a cleaning crew or clean everything in your new house a day or two before your scheduled move. The sellers are only responsible for broom-swept condition. Since movers will be in and out of the new house and they were also pressed for time, we can’t expect them to wear booties as they move. Be prepared to clean it yourself right after they move out. If you don’t see any garbage in the house, then consider yourself lucky.
The night of the move, prepare some snacks that are easy to transport for the kids and people helping. Have some water ready and some food that doesn’t need a lot of preparation. Put these items in a cooler and put it in your car so it’s accessible. If you have someone watching your kids, have them moved last or bring them colouring books and anything that will distract them from the move.
After you have made a layout of the rooms, label all the boxes with the rooms where they are going to and put names of the locations where the boxes are going (it should match your layout) or probably colour-code it for easy transport then it’s time to move everything into the moving truck.
Have some helper that will oversee the move and delegate to people. If you hire a mover, there will be 2-3 men including the driver that will be part of the movers. Time is money so have a helper watching over your stuff while you and another helper moves the stuff out of your house while waiting for the movers so once they’re there, the move starts right away. If you have little children, arrange someone to take care of them, bring them to a daycare or have someone watch over them as you move the stuff.
Hurray! You made it!
